383 Longblock??

Postby Jobenshain2017 » Tue Nov 19, 2019 10:42 am

Thinking of doing a power upgrade to my Storm. I currently have the 350/212 combination. Considering replacing 350 with a 383 Longblock.
Has anyone made this change? Any thoughts or comments? Is there a noticable difference in performance over the 350?
TIA. I appreciate any input before investing the $$. :)

Ton of info in that search. Hopefully someone can provide some first hand knowledge of the 383/212 combo. Thanks.

What are you trying to accomplish? More payload, faster, better hole shot? Do you know what impeller you are running right now?

Get on-step easier/faster with larger payload.

I'd check to see what impeller you have now.

How about a plate at the back of the boat to move weight forward? And save the money for gas. Just my 2 cents.

I did this swap in my Northwest Jet. It was really awesome. I will message you with details.

A 383 can be built up to 550 HP. It all matters on how much $ you want to spend. I had one in a 22 ft Duckworth Red Dot and it ran well. Not bad on gas either.

The info i was given what buying a crate motor for my new build. New stock 350 works good with the 2.4 blade the HT383 pulls the 2.9 blade and the Alum head SP383 pulls the 3.4 blade (Same impeller that works with the Kodiak 6.2L). I haven't got mine running yet but i went with the SP383. I swapped parts over from a blown up 350. The only thing i had to change was, the exhaust ports on the heads don't match the manifolds nothing a diegrinder couldn't fix.
Here is a video showing the difference between a 6.2L and 350. Not an exact comparison for what you are trying to do, but gives an idea on the diffrence with more power and the bigger blade will do.

I have made this exact swap from a 350 Olds to a 383 that Mike @ Valley Crank built. I already had the 212 but went from a 2.4 with a 3.4 impeller.
Every body that has been around this boat was amazed on the difference it made to this 24' Bentz. The fuel mileage was cut almost in half! Extremely please with the outcome and the work Mike had done to this 383.
