Mcbride to Prince George

Postby Dubya450 » Tue Jul 11, 2017 11:37 am

Hey Guys,
Me and couple of my buddies are planning a trip in mid august to put in at McBride and take a couple days to go up to prince george. From research we have done it looks like there is going to be one section of decent rapids and going to take around 16-20 hours of up river push. Just curious if anyone has accomplished and or attempted this before, we are going to have someone running us some slip tanks par way through, boats are 19' 8 degree running 350s with Hamilton. any info or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance

Never done it, but McBride to PG is downriver, not up...

PG is definitely down stream of McBride. Also the river and the highway don't really follow each other often and for very long so getting fuel to the boat could be a issue. One suggestion would be to drive the stretch first and find access via logging roads down to the river. A stream that size isn't going to have many roads across it. Would be a heck of a trip though. I have thought about it lots but very tough logistically

river access for fuel stops would be, Crescent spur, walker creek, dome creek, Penney access and McGregor most of which are about 2 to 3 hours apart. McGregor to PG would be your longest streach without river easy river access from the south side of the river. I have ran many sections but not all of it in any one trip. Having flown over it there are no end to corners as the river doubles back on itself non stop most of the way.

Yeah i definitely had it backwards, prince george to mcbride, was wanting to head up river due to some rapid sections I've been told about i would rather attempt upriver, Dont have much experience with them. friend of mine spoke to the fisheries and they said it is 375km trip one way. so should only need one fuel up.

Upstream from Sinclair Mills about 10km is the "Grand Canyon". Better be careful in there. Try to talk to someone who has done it first.

Well we made it, 2 days 360 liters of fuel, couple beer, did some site seeing not a lot of fishing was done as the weather wasn't ideal tho. slept on river mcbride side of the grand canyon. Canyon was easy, i was expecting worse, pouring rain when we went through it!
