Mini intake ??s

Postby JonCBrand » Wed Aug 30, 2017 5:30 pm

I'm looking for a bit more info on mini intake set up.
I will be running 13-16 Kawi stx 15f pump and motor
Here's what I think I know. Motor should be mounted to get crank center line for pump shaft housing.
Beyond that I'm lost

Intake foot plate size/dimensions
Angle or radius for intake?
Intake grate bar spacing
Intake height flush with hull or set below surface for future in me.
Bolt in or weld in the intake at hull bottom and transom.
I ordered the squirt plans from minijet
Thank you

I would order a cast intake and stomp grate from jamie (minijetboatbuilder) and call it a day. Alot of time and head scratching can go into building an intake, and as one of the most important parts of the boat i would go with something proven to avoid any chance of cavitating. :Drink:

We built a few of Jamie's 11 ft. Minis. I used a 215 hp seadoo etec 1500 cc. engine and jet. The hardest part of the build is the intake. I made my own but it wasn't easy. Ya Jamie has them. Or contact info@aspcnc.co.nz about there intakes. It would save you a lot of research and development. I was luck and I had help from friends and guys at work. Or you can order an intake that works from eagle/outlaw in Red deer Alberta. But they were $2800 cd a couple of years ago. But if it's not done right it will never perform like it should and will not hook up. Bigger the intake the better.

If you are planning to put a real intake grate in it make sure whatever you go with has a much larger surface area then the stock ski. Some of the bolt in/ weld in offerings do not. Some will just about double the budget on your boat. Not sure which one watts craft in NZ is using but the one I held was a quality unit for cheap but didn't come with pump adapter. I was told that you can now get adapters so it's probably the company linked above that is making them.

I checked out the NZ website. Im sure shipping will be outrageous from NZ to USA compared to Canada to USA
Id rather spend my money with Jamie since he has already provided the plans, and the intake should be a direct fit.
I will only be running 155hp Kawasaki with 148mm pump.

I was at a friends looking at the cast intake that he has. It is a bayjet, same as a older legend or Berkeley I believe. I think with a adaptor plate for the transom for the jet to mount. I think it would work. You should be able to get one cheap enough off of Craigslist.

I ended up ordering the housing and stomp grate from Jamie. Should have it in 3 weeks or so. He is currently designing a new adapter for the 148mm pumps.
